HIER Climate reporters

Where on Earth do you begin to solve the climate problem? HIER (= HERE). That is the theme, but also the name of this unique Dutch climate campaign. With the support of the National Postcode Lottery, HIER was launched as an umbrella climate campaign, covering more than 40 NGOs which work together to tackle climate change and bring it to people's attention more clearly.

In order to create attention in an appealing manner for the HIER campaign, we developed the concept of climate reporters in 2006. The concept covers a series of exceptional journeys to places in the world where climate change is already having a clear impact on humans and nature. Dutch organisations and their local partners are active in these locations, helping the local population to deal with these rapidly changing living environments.

On the basis of constantly changing competitions, 'ordinary’ Dutch people can qualify as climate reporters, and together with a Dutch celebrity, they can visit such a project and report on it. They inform the Netherlands, on the basis of their journey, on the already far-reaching consequences of climate change in the various parts of the world. Using blogs, interviews and TV productions, they also show how people are working on creating solutions there.
